The Delve Badger Shield Design was created by a collaboration between Delve, Midwest Prototyping, and the University of Wisconsin. Of the new designs that have recently become available, it is the closest we've seen to existing disposable designs. It is currently being manufactured by groups and organisations around the world, and accepted in many hospitals including Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge.
Comfort: Lightweight (30g), soft, wide headband and elasticated strap make it probably the most comfortable design to wear.
Ease of use: One handed donning and doffing, no user assembly. Strap not adjustable so can be uncomfortable for those with a very large or small head (depending on grade of elastic used). Can sometimes fog up due to lack of ventilation.
Safety: Excellent coverage and foam acts as a brow guard.
UK approval: The Cambridge Makespace worked with Addenbrookes Hospital to produce documentation to CE-mark level, but do not yet have notified body approval.
Sterilisation: Foam difficult or impossible to sterilise. Generally considered disposable.
